How to fund your online degree in the UK

There are a few options when it comes to funding your online degree. The very fact that you're choosing online and distance learning should reduce costs any because the courses generally cost less, there's not the accomodation/moving/living costs of redsidentually attending uni full time and you can fit the degree around working full or part time too.

Still, several thousands pounds over three years plus is a big sum to find. Here's the options we've found, assuming one does not have the cash in the bank to pay everything up front (I don't!):

  • If you don't have a degree already, you might be entitled to some sort of funding. Student Finance England classed distance learning courses as part time education, and advised it's best to fill out the forms, send them in and see what happens. Something is better than nothing.
  • Talk to the learning provider, many of them offer monthly payment plans, it might mean that you have to tighten your purse strings whilst you're studying... but then again what student isn't skint anyway
  • Career Developement Loans are a low interest bank loan that will cover the first two years of the course, and you don't start paying it back until then either. Find out more here.
  • Beg, borrow or steal the money from friends and family?!
