Real online degree: The Open University

You can get an affordable degree online, or study using distance learning, is through the Open University.

The cool thing is... The Open Degree -you make up your own degree qualification by choosing the combination of subjects - the courses must add up to 360 credit points to earn the degree. I love this idea because you can mould it around many interests, or group of interests, or tailor it specifically to a career path.

Whether you are looking to study full time or part time, the Open University allows you to study in a flexible way, around your current commitments.

They cater for virtually any interest or career path you wish to persue, and from what friends tell me who have studied with them, it's quite structured and supported.

The fact that you don't have class to attend, will help some and hinder others. It requires alot of motivation to keep trucking when there's not a timetabled structure, although this will suit some people down to the ground.

There are deadlines to stick to, and little flexibility by way of, wishing to complete the course sooner.

On the financial side of things, they have their own centre dedicated to helping you fund your degree- with either grants (depending on your income, age, if you've got a degree or not...) or their monthy budget option.  They're very helpful on the telephone when I've spoken to them.

I know the Open University is becoming a popular alternative to traditional uni, so kids can stay home and study, without suffering the massive debt that moving away to uni can cause.

Ball park figures, you're looking at min. 3 years and £10k without funding for your degree.
